17 METRO STATIONS, MULTIMODAL INTEGRATION, Delhi

The aim of the project was to design the immediate zone around all Phase III Metro Stations (50-300M) to provide essential facilities and amenities at appropriate distances as per the UTTIPEC MRTS multimodal integration checklist so that efficient, convenient and safe inter modal connectivity is possible for all Metro users.

Seamless transitions/ interchanges between different modes to complete travel trip one of the concerns to be addressed. Availability of options to select different modes to make travel trip cheaper, faster and more comfortable. Effective organization and spatial allocation of various para-transit/IPT modes, such that convenience to public transport users is maximized, and efficiency of all modes is improved.

The project aims at improving walkability with high quality public realm that is comfortable and safe for all to use. This shall encourage better connectivity to and from the metro stations and hopefully help convert al lot of small vehicular trips to more sustainable modes. The project involved station area plan, movement strategy to make effective use of transit. Identified Station Area Typologies in relation to the urban context and character. Undertaken an analysis of the Station’s urban context and transportation role and function. Created a vision for each of the identified station types in terms of ultimate character and development form.

Assessed the infrastructure holding capacity of the demonstration station area:
• Prepared a Development / Urban Design Concept
• Accessibility and Access Concept
• Transit / Station Improvement Concept
